Is in it in our interest for corporations to gain control of our food system and commercialise the human body and its genetic material? Those are the questions that were animatedly discussed on Monday 13th of February, by a panel of experts at Sydney Law School:
Canadian farmer Peter Eggers talked about the patent case he is involved in against Monsanto in the USA.
Dr. Palombi, an expert on biotechnology patents, discussed how the patent system is being abused by multinational corporations and his latest work with federal politicians in trying to stop the patenting of human genes.
Professor Peter Cashman described the current Federal Court case where the plaintiffs are challenging the patenting of human genes, in which he is appearing as junior counsel.
